Teaching Standards in International Schools

International Schools in different countries find themselves in the list of schools first considered by most of the expat parents for their children. Various strong reasons make these schools highly desired; some of these include the curriculum, the facilities, and the extra-circular activities. Most international schools help its students in smooth and easy transition from their previous educational institutions.

The teachers and the teaching methodologies employed are the foundation on which the quality of any school is defined. Hence, it is important for the parents to understand the teaching techniques which are employed by the school to mould children. International schools all around the world have set standards on the unique and creative learning approach they employ to empower their students with reasoning capacity, knowledge, questioning spirit, and self learning. A collective learning environment in these schools help children understand concept, have fun while studying, and also helps them learn skills which further aid them in building successful career .

By moving away from traditional teaching methods where teachers and textbooks are the only reservoirs of knowledge, and chalk and board teaching techniques; these schools have achieved great results. Children learn easily only when they are interested in what is being taught. Several new technologies are employed to capture their interest and help them remember what is being taught in the class. For instance, some schools use see, hear, and interpret techniques in which visually stimulating videos containing all necessary information is screened for the students. The images and information processed this way remain stored in long term memory and deeper understanding is achieved by the child when revised using reading materials or by viewing the videos again.

Encouraging students to ask the right questions and learn through self discovery not only helps students gain deep interest in the subject but also inspires them to dig deeper to attain better understanding. Some international schools such as Canadian International School in Bangalore, India, believe in sharing knowledge and fun learning. It has been observed that children learn better if they are thoroughly enjoying the learning process, hence, the school takes special interest in making lessons enjoyable and pleasant. This type of teaching has actually shown impressive results, C Grade students have stepped up to B or A Grade. The improvement is not only in the marks sheet but also in the intellectual, emotional, and social development of each student. Much work is being done in this area and various techniques are even now being developed at many of these schools to provide better quality of education.
