Graduate International Studies Phd Programs In The South

After international studies phd programs much discourse as to whether going to graduate school for Film Studies in Canada would give my son the credentials for a PhD program in the US, what tipped the scales was cost - clear and simple international studies phd programs

He graduated from Colgate University Magna Cum Laude in the spring of 2007 and took a year off to pursue film production work. Most of the positions he took were non-paying production assistant jobs in films such as Old Dogs. The benefits were credentials on his resume, personal movie credits, and a decision whether film was the industry he would pursue.

He decided to write about film, rather than produce it. In the fall of 2008, he applied to eleven film study graduate international studies phd programs eight in the US; three in Canada. The least expensive options were combined international studies phd programs most of which offered free rides upon acceptance. However, many schools offered only one or the other, and most competitive international studies phd programs were difficult to enter without a Masters Degree. In the end, he applied to combined international studies phd programs

The US universities he applied to were, the University of Iowa, Harvard, Brown, Yale, Columbia, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Chicago, New York University, and Emory University international studies phd programs

The Canadian universities he applied to having outstanding cinema departments were the University of Toronto, Concordia and York University.

In the US, universities international studies phd programs that offered admission were Columbia, NYU, Chicago and Emory. All three Canadian international studies phd programs offered admission.

Emory was the only US program that offered a scholarship for their MA in Film Studies. The 2009 - 2010 tuition was $36,420. Emory offered a full tuition scholarship (waiver) for two years as well as 75% towards its student health insurance plan. The University of Chicago - whose MA Program in the Humanities tuition, room and board costs approached $42,000 - offered no scholarship. But they did offer a fellowship program for housing with yearly awards from $1,000 to $3,000.

International Studies Phd Programs

Columbia University accepted him into its MA program in the School of Arts. Tuition, room and board, books, travel and personal expenses totaled $67,060 per year (two years). It offered loans and work-study funds of $26,500, leaving a balance of over $40,000. NYU accepted him into their MA Program in the Department of Cinema Studies but didn't mention the cost in their acceptance letter. I'm assuming they didn't want to scare him off international studies phd programs
